SEO Optimized Location Searches

Overview

With the v2.8 release of Metro Publisher, we introduced new location searches that have been better optimized for SEO. What does that mean? It means that these new searches contain a few key features that make them better performers in terms of how search robots understand the content they contain. Additionally, locations without a physical address, or whose address is not relevant to the area in which their services are available (ex. a bank, handyman, or web-based business) can be found by your readers.

Top features

  • Better SEO
  • Map/List views split into two pages
  • Location address no longer required

PLEASE NOTE: Another Metro Publisher feature highly focused on SEO is our Location Roundup. More information on creating this type of Content may be found here: Location Roundups

Search Pages

To provide a great browse experience for your readers, the new location searches include a robust search tool that is optimized to display all your locations to search engine robots.

List View Includes

  1. Search Box and Map Toggle
Keyword search will scan businesses titles, addresses, and description fields. Alphabetical list allows users to jump to listings ordered alphabetically. Toggle allows your users who prefer a map based search to switch.
  2. Business Listings
For those of you with the directory add-on, configurable options to display featured businesses.
  3. Locations Ordered by Latest Activity
When the search pages first load, locations are ordered by latest activty instead of alphabetically. This makes the page less static and alleviates the bias against businesses with names that appear later in the alphabet. Once a user filters, list changes to alphabetical for easier browsing.
