NOTE: This support doc is for the old section editor (v03). If you are an existing client and have not updated your section pages to the new section editor(v04), you should consider doing so now. You don't have to update your whole site at once. Updating your sections can be done individually and at your own pace. It is highly recommend that you update your old sections so that you can make use of many new features afforded by the new Section Layouts and Sprockets.
Overview Video
With the v2.10 release of Metro Publisher, there is a new version of the homepage editor.
For full screen viewing, click the expand icon in the video player.
Manual Homepage Editor
With the Homepage Editor, you can display your content either by manually selecting your preferred Headline and Featured Stories, or by selecting the automated Homepage option, which will display the most recent content first.
To move content up or down in the manual list, drag and drop your articles by clicking on the arrow buttons at the top left of each story.
For manually selected content, you can use the Edit function to add alternate titles and descriptions for the content. This means you can enter Event times in the Description field for an Event you would like to feature on your Homepage, for example:
Automated Homepage Editor
The homepage editor also gives you the option to automate the content that appears on your homepage:
- Days of the Week: Your site can have a different Homepage for each day of the week, allowing you to plan in advance what your site visitors will see on Wednesday versus Thursday. This functionality enables your site to look fresh all week. Different looks can be accomplished with small changes; using different headline photos each day, swapping out different stories, or featuring different teaser Sprockets provides a new fresh look daily.
By default the page opens to the current day of the week. - Copy: If you want all days of the week to have the same homepage configuration, here you may copy your changes to the rest of the week.
- Headline Stories: Here you can configure automation rules for the content that appears as Headline Stories on the homepage.
- Auto Headlines: Check to use automation. Un-check to use manual function.
- Number of Headline Stories: Select the maximum number of headline stories to appear. (Max = 8)
- Tags: Use tags to filter stories. By default, content will be included by tag.
- Exclude content with this tag(s): If you would like to exclude content by tag.
- Featured Stories: Here you can configure automation rules for the content that appears as Featured Stories on the homepage.
- Sprockets: Add new sprockets or edit existing ones for the right and left columns on the homepage here.
A couple things to note:
- Left Rail Sprockets: If may choose not to insert sprockets into the left rail. In that case, the featured stories stories will automatically stretch to fill the space.
- Editing Sprockets: Sprockets are centrally managed under the section called "Sprockets" in your work site. As a convenience, you may edit the sprockets you've placed in the homepage here. But, keep in mind that if these sprockets have also been placed in other sections of your site, any changes oyu make here will also effect those sprockets.
